10 Board Game Accounts to Follow on Instagram
I started my sojourn into the world of board games by writing reviews and features for Zatu games. It wasn’t until joining Instagram late last year that I realised the hobbyist community of board games were so welcoming and nice. It was this shared love that spurred me on to create this website.
I wanted to share the love further and so I have created my Top 10 Board Game Accounts to follow on Instagram. These awesome people will brighten up your Instagram feed with stunning photographs. I feel like this post should come with a warning… these people will make you fall in love with board gaming even more than you already do! So, in no particular order, here are some great accounts to follow. Please note I seeked and have been given kind permission to use all the images you see below.
1. @curiouslybooksandgames
A cog in the Instagram board game community and a fabulous ambassador for our hobby. Transatlantic Stef is the founder of the ggssaamm hashtag, which stands for The Gaming Guild’s Secret Society for the Admiration and Advancement of Magnificent Minis. These snaps are usually posted on Mini Mondays on Instagram and feature user’s favourite little game components. It is a very public secret society and helps build community, connecting gamers via the ‘little things’. Follow @curiuoslybooksandgames and #ggssaamm on Instagram now. Your feed will be brighter and more colourful for it!

2. @playtography
Prepare to give your eyeballs a treat with some sumptuous board game photography. @playtography promote taking snaps of board games to an art form. Their shots will make you drool as they showcase all manner of games with beautiful lighting, focus and colour. Do you need any more reasons to follow them?

3. @smallfriesgames
Awesome bright and colourful posts awaits when you follow @smallfriesgames. You will also get regular live videos looking at some of the latest games. These are interspersed with images of potatoes – sounds bizarre and perhaps it is, but I for one, adore it. You’ll also see the progress of a game she is designing for young children in addition to having the chance of winning prizes in one of her frequent giveaways. What more can I say, this is another account you have to follow!

4. @movinmeeples
A family of four board gamers based in the UK, @movinmeeples is a fantastic account. Not only will you see some amazing photos of board games you will sporadically be treated to seeing Pando and Dappa invade the photographs. Who are Pando and Dappa I hear you ask. Well, they are two tortoises who love to photo bomb the board games and are among the best things you can see online at the moment in my opinion!

5. @boardgamerjen
Jen and Ben are a husband and wife duo playing two-player games. Jen takes some lovely photos of them along the way and shares them on her account @boardgamerjen. You might occasionally catch a glimpse of their pet cat Smudge too. Co-founders of the #gamerbehindthegames encouraging accounts to show their faces – I think it is a superb idea – so here they are on my list!

6. @tabletopist
Sean is a Dane living in Belgium but don’t panic all posts are in English! He works at Cartamundi, the board game manufacturer, and I have been hoping for some sneak peeks. Instead I get some great photos of board games and trade fairs that he attends and I am still not disappointed. @tabletopist has not been on Instagram as long as some other accounts, but I like what I see so far and if it continues in a similar way you won’t be disappointed either – I guess this makes him my ‘one to watch’!

7. @badboardgamecovers
This isn’t an account that will provide you with outstanding snaps of games. In fact all the photos are out of focus! This is intentional I hasten to add. What I enjoy most with this American account @badboardgamecovers, is that it is a regular challenge, a game in itself, an Instagame if you like! The posts look ridiculously pixelated and as you swipe the game starts to snap into focus, but the stars you can claim diminish. Visit the account and you will see what I mean. It is good fun and if you scroll through the previous posts you will be surprised how many of the pixelated covers you will recognise! This is an entertaining account for board game geeks and addicts to follow, plus you will have to pay him a visit anyway to find out what these three are!

8. @imagineallthemeeple
If your visual senses aren’t in overload yet then it is time to also follow @imagineallthemeeple. Pulchritudinous board game photographs await you. Setup, lit and staged to perfection. Truly brilliant work to aspire to, so go give them a follow! By this point you have already sung the name like John Lennon haven’t you?

9. @merry.meeple.peeple
This account is made up of a cheerful couple and their family, which not only includes children but dachshunds and at least one cat. They are selfless promoters of the hobby and hobbyists on Instagram. They share the love with endless posts and stories and for that reason they make the list. I’ve never met them but they seem like they would be a real giggle to board game with! I guess that’s why they are called @merry.meeple.peeple!

10. @boardgamereviewuk
I’m not even going to apologise for the self-promotion here. Our Instagram account @boardgamereviewuk is pretty cool even if we do say so ourselves. At least in some weird form of vanity we put ourselves at the bottom of the list! By following us, you will be kept up to date… and why wouldn’t you want that? We also share the love most Sundays by recommending even more accounts to follow from the world of board gaming. It’s not all board-gaming recommendations either. We go further afield to showcase other awesome accounts we have stumbled upon too.

There are so many other impressive accounts outside this Top 10 list. I actually don’t want to stop at 10… but it wouldn’t be much of a top ten if I didn’t!
