Stonemaier Games Charity Auction
If it wasn’t awesome enough that Stonemaier Games published fantastic games like Wingspan, Viticulture and Libertalia, every year Jamey Stegmaier hosts a charity auction using the company’s success as a platform to help those in need.
To date these auctions have raised over $211,000! Stonemaier Games organise everything, including offering specially numbered or custom copies of their games, shipping and promotion. The generosity doesn’t end there, between them and their Kickstarter fulfilment company, Fulfillrite, they match dollar for dollar the highest winning bid for each auction.
I’m telling you all this, not only because it is mega, but also because I have been selected as one of the board game community figures to choose a charity this year. After a lot of consideration, I have chosen Surfers Against Sewage.

Why Surfers Against Sewage?
I am lucky enough to live near the South Coast of England, but found myself in hospital three times growing up attributed to swimming amongst sewage in our coastal waters. Unfortunately, our seas and rivers still have the threat of sewage pollution and increasingly plastic pollution. My chosen charity, Surfers Against Sewage, wants to create clean waters through raising awareness, campaigning, education, lobbying and organizing beach cleanups. They also have an app that tracks sewage discharge to help you know whether it is safer to swim. My family still love the seaside, and it would be nice for it to be safely enjoyed by future generations too.
Of course, other amazing charities have been selected by some brilliant people in the industry, including the Samaritans, World Vision and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
How can you help?

Ideally, you can go and place a bid on the auctions, even better if it is the one associated to me! I would like to help raise the most money, I can occasionally be competitive you see – unusual for a board gamer I know! However, even if you can’t afford to dip into your pocket, it would be really awesome if you can head over and like (thumb) my auction lot as the content creator with the most thumbs will get $1 per thumb to their selected charity (up to $5000).
