Mindworks Trapped for Cash Spoiler-free Escape Room Review
It had been about a year since we had visited a Mindworks Escape Room. After completing Smuggler’s Ruin last year, returning to this Worthing Escape Room was long overdue.

The entrance for Trapped for Cash is at the back of the building and we were greeted by an in-character and inflectionally enthusiastic host. They explained how we were about to go onto the last episode of a popular TV gameshow. The dialogue was brilliant and it all set the scene fantastically well. We even got offered some thematic costumes to adorn ourselves in. Of course, we said yes!

Entering the room itself felt like we were walking on to a TV set. We were immediately faced with our electronic host Rich Goldman and a wall of shuttered doors of possibilities. Once opened, each of these doors offered a challenge being a nod to popular television gameshows, from I’m a Celebrity to Bullseye. As a family team of five we had the ability to attempt two puzzles at a time and this really encouraged us to split up and work as different teams. I liked how we drifted between teams when necessary to work to each of our strengths, this allowed the kids to take the lead much more which as a parent was nice to see. Each completed puzzle unlocked a disc which would add money to the prize pool.

I discovered later that all the puzzles of the game show are offered randomly. Our first puzzle, took quite a few minutes to solve, but we then found our stride and ticked off many more in the allotted time. We got quicker as we familiarised ourselves with our surroundings too.
Hints for games cost money from your prize pool, we got a couple and I really liked that trade off. The entire escape room felt different. It wasn’t the usual journey, but a unique experience gathering prize winnings, rather than trying to escape in the traditional way.

At the end we were all buzzing and the hosts debrief added to that excitement and feeling of achievement. I think it is safe to say this was the entire family’s favourite escape room to date and we all wish we could go and do it again. Alas, that’s not how escape rooms work. The bar has been set very high for all future rooms though. Trapped for Cash was exceptionally good from beginning to end.
My only concern is whether our cheque for our prize winnings of £153,550 is going to clear! I guess if it doesn’t we still have our badges as a memento!
